NCA Leadership Journey And Apl.de.Ap’s Education Advocacy Featured On Kris TV

Last December 19, 2011, Kris TV, ABS-CBN’s hit morning talk show hosted by Kris Aquino, featured the NCA Leadership Journey and Apl.de.Ap’s education advocacy for its Christmas week specials.

“I am a hero” is the legacy of Ninoy and Cory Aquino that is advocated by the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF). Through the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey program, young Filipinos are given the chance to change their lives for the better.

Among the guests during the show were Ballsy Aquino-Cruz and Pinky Aquino-Abellada, along with NCA Leadership Journey graduates Ara Laiza Roldan, Marvin Sipin, Julian Torcuator and Crissel Tamondong.

“When I was a student-leader, I was juggling many activities. However, I didn’t fully understand what the purpose of my efforts was,” said Roldan.

“The Journey program of NCAF really showed me that I am a leader and that as young as I may be, I can do something really worthwhile,” explained Torcuator.

“The program taught us how to include God in our own life journeys,” added Tamondong. “We are capable of accomplishing a lot of things on our own, but it’s more motivating knowing that God is right there guiding you every step of the way. NCAF has been an immense help in our lives. We can draw strength and inspiration from this program and use it to create positive changes in our country. And we now truly understand what all our efforts are for – for our family, for our fellowmen, and for our country.”

NCAF Chairperson Ballsy Aquino-Cruz went on to discuss NCAF’s partnership with world-renowned hip-hop artist, Apl.de.Ap. Cruz succeeded her mother, the late President Corazon “Cory” Aquino, as Chairperson of NCAF (then Benigno S. Aquino, Jr. Foundation) after the former president’s passing in August of 2009.

“Apl.de.Ap is a really nice person, and he sincerely wants to help the country,” said Cruz. “He had quite a difficult childhood. Now that he’s successful, he wants to give back. He holds concerts in America, and allocates a portion of his earnings for classroom building here in the Philippines.”

“Apl.de.Ap also donates his endorsement fees,” added Abellada, who is also an education advocate associated with Aklat, Gabay, Aruga tungo sa Pag-Angat at Pag-asa (AGAPP). “He requested that part of the pay he’ll receive from an endorsement deal will be classrooms. The peso amount of which will amount to approximately 20 classrooms.”
