Islands Souvenirs & Pangarap Foundation
Duty, Dream, Love & Service
By Ma. Reiza D. Lizano
Helping others might be somebody’s favorite hobby or just someone’s interest. But sometimes, it’s a duty. Whatever it is, those people
who help only have one mission, and that is to serve. People may always say, “Two helping hands are better than one, three’s the best.”
For years, the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation has been in partnership with the Pangarap Foundation, carrying the same torch with one goal: to guide and protect Filipino youth. Pangarap Foundation was founded by Sons of Mary, Ina-anak Inc. in 1989 to provide street and abandoned children not only with their basic needs such as food, shelter, and education, but also spiritual values that will serve as their guiding light in living their life in the future as good citizens of the country. And when that time comes, this gospel-based life will also lead them to in turn become multipliers of God’s love themselves.
The objectives of the Pangarap Foundation have been successfully realized due to the immense support of Islands Souvenirs. The retail company has been allotting a percentage of its market sales to fund various efforts of the Foundation. Thus, one young Filipino’s life is changed for the better with every T-shirt sold. Islands Souvenirs was conceptualized by Jay Aldeguer as a souvenir shop for different tourist spots in the Philippines. The said souvenir business expanded its sales and market locally and even internationally. The trademark “I heart Cebu” white T-shirt has been their most popular product.
One beneficiary of the Pangarap Foundation program is Jayson Cañaveral. The donations received from Islands Souvenirs were used for his educational needs. After finishing his schooling at Don Bosco, Jayson is now undergoing his OJT as a Fitter Machinist in Silang, Cavite. Jayson will be graduating October of this year. The seed planted is almost on its way to be harvested as a useful plant. The Pangarap Foundation and Islands Souvenirs will continue their important quest to improve the lives of the Filipino youth, as there are a lot more children who can benefit from this program.
Service to society is the Foundation’s duty, instructed by the heart.

ISLANDS SOUVENIRS
Conceptualized during the early 1990’s as a result of its founder Jay Aldeguer’s various travels to Europe and around the Philippine Islands, Islands Souvenirs offers the best locally-made pasalubong and souvenir items to both foreign and Filipino travelers and tourists.
With an initial capital of P200,000 and a P1,500 worth-Bamboo cart, Aldeguer began selling souvenir t-shirts and items in Cebu. Since then, Islands Souvenirs has expanded its chain of stores and items not only throughout the entire archipelago but across the whole world, as well. At present, Islands Souvenir is the Philippines’ most awarded and leading souvenir shop. From a souvenir shop, the Islands Souvenirs now ventures in offering adventure tourism, media, events, design and merchandise development.
Aside from doing business via tourism merchandise and services, Islands Souvenirs fulfills its corporate social responsibility to the consuming public by participating in various social and charitable initiatives such as tree-planting activities, scuba clean-up drives, environmental campaigns and raising funds and money for the preservation and protection of the country’s natural sanctuaries.

Pangarap Foundation: Building Dreams for Street Children
Founded in 1989 as Pangarap Shelter for Street Children by the Sons of Mary, Ina-Anak, Inc. and the Ladies of Charity of Pasay, the Pangarap Foundation, Inc. has been involved in social development work by trying to create a positive future for street children and their families.
The Pangarap Foundation has been offering a Gospel-based and integrated ministry to respond to the special protection needs of street children and their families. It currently has three kinds of services to street children. The first is the Caring Services which provides food, shelter, clothing, legal and medical services. The second is the Healing Services which offers spiritual, psychological and emotional counseling and intervention. And the third is the Teaching Services which gives street children both formal and non-formal education such as vocational/technical training, values formation and education and recreational activities.
Aside from these services, Pangarap Foundation also implements the following concrete social programs to uplift the conditions and lives of street children: Street Education Program, Recovery Center, Residential Center and Community Outreach Program and After Care. All of these programs are designed to complement the social services being offered by the Foundation.
With the help of its staff and volunteers such as social workers, housewives, teachers, street educators, physicians, psychologists and religious brothers and sisters, Pangarap Foundation is fulfilling its vision and mission of restoring street children and their families to health of body, mind and spirit and to accompany them in their journey towards God’s children.
