iamninoy-iamcory Gears Up for Deeper Engagement with Young People

ON THE OCCASION of the late President Corazon C. Aquino’s 77th birth anniversary last January 25, 2010, the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF), formerly known as the Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Foundation, has formally launched the second phase of its successful iamninoy awareness campaign which began in 2008 by transforming it from a youth advocacy into a cause-oriented movement for the young people. Hence, the name iamninoy-iamcory was adopted for the new youth movement.

Keeping the legacy and values of Ninoy and Cory alive

Anchored on the values of the martyred opposition leader Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and the late democracy icon President Corazon “Cory” Aquino, the iamninoy-iamcory youth movement seeks to deepen the involvement of young Filipinos in good citizenship and nation-building.

Mr. Rafael C. Lopa, executive director of NCAF, stressed during the launching that the movement will go beyond its earlier goal of raising awareness and consciousness about the lives of Ninoy and Cory by creating avenues for young people to engage in concrete activities that contribute to the betterment of society along the movement’s five levers of change which are governance, livelihood, education, environment and health.

Mr. Lopa explained that the young people can actively participate in the activities and projects of the iamninoy-iamcory movement’s program partners by volunteering and helping them in their causes and initiatives. Also, during the launching, Mr. Lopa announced the list of iamninoy-iamcory program partners along its five levers of change which include the following organizations: Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan (Governance), PinoyME Foundation (Livelihood), Tulong Dunong Foundation (Education) 57-75 Movement (Education), World Wildlife Fund-Philippines (Environment), Hapag-Asa Integrated Nutritional Feeding Program (Health) and the Health Education Reform Order Initiative (Health).

Further, he also said that from having eight retail partners in 2008, the iamninoy-iamcory movement now has eighteen retail partners which include Bench, Penshoppe, Mint, Team Manila and Dibuho, among others. Likewise, he revealed that since its inception in 2008, the iamninoy-iamcory advocacy campaign has raised a total of P2.2 million in the proceeds of its merchandise sales, all of which went to the NCAF’s beneficiaries and poor communities.
