Losar Optics supports Tuloy Foundation
A child's environment directly affects his development be it emotional, physical, or mental. His environment is crucial in determining what would a child be when he turns old. A child that is well-taken cared off has a bright future ahead of him. What would one expect if a child grows up on the streets? His deprivation of care and protection from his family would lead him to certain activities that he would consider as forms of escape and survival.
In order to survive the life on the street, the child has greater tendencies to engage himself with activities such as begging and vending. Worse, he might venture into petty crimes, prostitution, and drug pushing.
In this tainted picture comes in the Tuloy Foundation. Armed with hope for the street children, Tuloy started to cater to poor and abandoned youth in 1993 led by Fr. Marciano G. Evagelista, SDB. He began the program in just a small room in St. John Bosco Parish Compound, Makati City with 12 children. Together with this endeavor was a group of volunteers. Since then, it "has fed, clothed, sheltered, healed, and educated" over 4000 marginalized youth. Since 1997, it has provided free education and training to poor kids who could not afford to study. It has already produced over 500 graduates in Basic Education and another 1000 in Vocational Technology from then on.
Tuloy already received commendations from three government institutions namely Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Education, and Department of Social Welfare and Development. Tuloy sa Don Bosco School won fourth place for the Most Outstanding Literacy Program – National Level in the 2003 Literacy Awards.
Tuloy Foundation, Inc. received the 3rd Consuelo Awards of Highest Excellence for its outstanding service to the street children of the Philippines. In March 2007, the Foundation was named an Outstanding Organization of Muntinlupa for its significant contribution to the life of Muntinlupeños through acts of service and generosity.
